Screenwriting: Story & Structure

Understanding story structure is an essential tool for every filmmaker. This 5-week course will give you the foundational knowledge you need to write a screenplay, be it for a five-minute short or a feature-length film. Learn the basics of characters, dialogue, outlining in three acts and the revision process. You’ll also explore the planning and visualizing process, learning techniques in storyboarding and concept artwork to develop and map your film to its fullest creative potential.

Teaching Artist: Meredith Cole
Meredith Cole is the author of two mystery novels. The first, Posed for Murder<, was nominated for an Agatha Award for Best First Mystery Novel. She is also featured in the books Making Story: Twenty-One Writers and How They Plot and Writes of Passage and has a short story in the anthology Coast to Coast: Private Eyes from Sea to Shining Sea. A former filmmaker and screenwriter with an MA in film and video production from The American University, she has taught film directing at the School of Visual Arts and writing at the University of Virginia.
