Special Skills: Screenwriting

Description:
Understanding story structure is an essential tool for every filmmaker. This 5-week course will give you the foundational knowledge you need to write a screenplay, whether it be for a five-minute short or a feature-length film. Learn the basics of pitching your idea, outlining in three acts, understanding your characters, dialogue work, the revision process, and more. This course will require writing outside of class hours, but as a great screenwriter once said: “Being a writer is like having homework for the rest of your life.” – Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back)

Mentor:
Lex Hrabe has worked in the entertainment industry for over ten years. He is an Albermarle County native and the co-author of the QUARANTINE series, a young adult trilogy of novels. The first in the series, THE LONERS, has been on a number of prestigious reading lists, including Booklist’s Editor’s Choice list.
